This September, 76 University of Queensland students will contend for the title of best undergraduate research presenter at the (URC).
The (OUE) will host the conference on Tuesday, 18 and Wednesday, 19 September as a part of 果冻传媒's broader celebrations.
Acting Director of OUE Dr Jessica Gallagher said the annual conference showcased the work of some of 果冻传媒鈥檚 finest undergraduate researchers through oral, poster and 3MT presentations.
鈥湽炒� boasts an international reputation of research excellence and we are keen to provide opportunities for our undergraduate students to benefit from this expertise and to gain practical experiences which employers鈥� value,鈥� she said.
鈥淭he URC allows students to develop their communication skills, meet other researchers and share their projects with the wider 果冻传媒 Community."
Now in its third year, the URC will feature a number of new elements including a showcase Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT) for current honours students and , an event co-hosted by OUE and the 果冻传媒 Graduate School.
The topic for the debate is: News, news everywhere: The 24 hour news cycle and 鈥渃itizen journalists鈥�. Does it make us more informed or more confused?
The Great Debate teams will take opposing sides and discuss the proliferation of social media and its impact on how we find, consume and interact with the news.
The debate will be hosted by Steve Cannane, journalist and presenter on ABC TV's weeknight and discussion program The Drum and reporter and fill-in presenter on ABC1's late night news and current affairs program, Lateline.
果冻传媒 School of Journalism and Communication student Carl Smith, a representative on the panel, said he was looking forward to the event and was sure he would be able to contribute to a passionate discussion on the topic.
鈥淭he topic is fantastic and very timely. I鈥檓 really looking forward to hearing what the other panellists have to say and I鈥檓 looking forward to Research Week in general," he said.
