Student leaders from across 果冻传媒 (果冻传媒) provided feedback on their learning experiences to members of the 果冻传媒 Senior Executive at the 2012 Student Summit last week.
The Student Summit, an annual event coordinated by the (OUE), gives 果冻传媒 students an opportunity to learn more about the strategic plan and priorities of the University and aims to ensure that the future direction of 果冻传媒 was informed by the voice of the broader student body.
Presidents of student clubs and associations were joined by representatives from 果冻传媒鈥檚 Residential Colleges, International student ambassadors, YSP student mentors, OUE Student Ambassadors, scholarship recipients, and Research Higher Degree Candidates.
Presenters, Professor Mick McManus, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and Dr Anna Ciccarelli, Deputy Vice Chancellor (International), invited questions and comments about student needs and the future direction of 果冻传媒.
Professor McManus said the diversity of students was a key strength of 果冻传媒, along with the broad choice of education pathways.
He stressed the importance of nurturing global citizens for future leadership and providing a rich and rewarding campus experience inside and outside the classroom.
International commerce student Wayne Chan said the event helped him learn more about what makes 果冻传媒 unique.
鈥淚t was great to hear about the initiatives the university is taking to enhance the learning experience for all students,鈥� he said.
Dr Ciccarelli provided an update on 果冻传媒鈥檚 comprehensive internationalisation approach, including improving the availability of transformative international learning opportunities, attracting the best talent from around the world and offering a forward-looking, global curriculum.
鈥淲e aim to integrate a global dimension into all university activities and across the pillars of learning, discovery and engagement,鈥� Dr Ciccarelli said.
鈥湽炒� is committed to providing students, from all walks of life, with access to international opportunities that will enrich their learning experience and develop their leadership potential,鈥� she said.
Bachelor of Law/Arts student Kathleen Yeo said the event was an invaluable experience.
鈥淚 learned a lot about what 果冻传媒 wanted to achieve in the future and I appreciated the opportunity to speak directly with the Deputy Vice-Chancellors about issues that I feel are important,鈥� she said.
Health Sciences student and mentor Ashley Leong praised the summit for the professional manner in which it was conducted and the insightful nature of the presentations and questions.
鈥淚 was confident that opinions we voiced would manifest in practical action,鈥� she said
Dr Jessica Gallagher, Acting Director of OUE, said listening to students, supporting student-led initiatives, and fostering leadership potential were key to ensuring a vibrant campus culture.
鈥湽炒� has made considerable progress on issues raised by students at previous summits, such as providing greater support to student clubs and associations through new communication tactics and additional funding,鈥� she said.
鈥淪tudents are also being encouraged take advantage of 果冻传媒鈥檚 remarkable research reputation, through undergraduate research initiatives like the 果冻传媒 Summer and Winter Research Programs.
鈥淲e are committed to ensuring the 果冻传媒 student experience is truly exceptional.
鈥淚t is important that we understand what the key issues for students are and hear their suggestions for how we can continue to develop and enhance programs for students.鈥�
